Labradoodles

Miniature Labradoodles

(Labrador Retriever crossed with a  Miniature Poodle hybrid designer breed)  We originally chose Miniature Labradoodles because we love labs but we also wanted less hair in our home…the cross creates a very loveable labe with less shedding and very hypoallergenic! We have both first and second generation…some are born with curlier coats…some are born with very straight coats!

What is a LABRADOODLE: Puppies Up North Miniature Labradoodle are a cross between our AKC Labrador Retrievers and our AKC Miniature Poodle.  History tells us they were first bred in Australia in 1989 by breeder Wally Conron, who sought to create a dog with the Labrador’s characteristic obedience and versatility and the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat for a disabled lady who needed the stability of a Labrador but was allergic to dogs.  We produce Mini Labradoodles by crossing a purebred Miniature Poodle with a purebred Labrador Retriever (called a first generation cross or an F1) – these would be considered our mommas Holly, Peaches or Abbey’s off spring. We also cross our Labradoodles with our Miniature Poodles (called a multi-generation cross or F1B) – these would be considered our mommas of Chloe or Bryleigh. Like other ‘designer breeds’, the Labradoodle has seen a recent surge in popularity. Puppies Up North can proudly say that we have adopted thes puppies all over the United States and have recently adopted one to a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

Size: Here at Puppies Up North we breed the miniature Labradoodle which has an average shoulder height of 13-16 in and weighs 25-40 lbs.

Coat: Due to the Poodle influence, the Labradoodle may have a wide variety of coats. The Labradoodle coat may be whispy or soft, straight or curly, or anywhere in between. There are a wide variety of possible Labradoodle colors, including white, cream, fox red, brown, black, and gold. First generation (F1’s) shed lightly with a wispy hair coat, Second generation Labradoodles of primarily Poodle mixture(F1B) are nonshedding with a fleece textured coat.

Character / Temperament: The Labradoodle is friendly and very family oriented. It is very clever, perky, and funny. Labradoodles love their family and are highly loyal. Labradoodles are friendly with dogs, other pets and children. They are affectionate with strangers.shedding with a fleece textured coat.

Training & Activity: The Labradoodle is intelligent and eager to please, making it straightforward to train. Labradoodles are able to learn a wide variety of unusual tricks. Labradoodles require a moderate amount of exercise such as a daily walk or playtime in a fenced-in yard. Most are fond of swimming, like their parent breeds.

How can I tell them apart?
When our puppies are first born, I put a piece of yarn around their neck. This yarn aids in keeping track of their growth, their “input and output”, their  personalities, their type of hair, etc.

How much time are you around your puppies?  Are they socialized?
I spend a minimum of 5-6 hours a day with these puppies: holding, changing soft blankets, cuddling, taking care of mama and her needs, teaching, tickling, cuddling, working through their 100 point socialization skills, cuddling, potty training, cuddling, … oh and did I say I love to cuddle with them?  Ha.

What is their temperament?
Labradoodles are sociable, friendly, non-aggressive, and extremely intuitive. Their intelligence and high train-ability make them well suited for guide dogs, therapy dogs, and other assistance dogs. Their non-allergic coats make them popular among people who have not been able to enjoy pets because of their allergies.

What are the parents like?
We make every effort to make sure that our mamas are fed and watered properly before giving birth. We assure them daily that they are okay and that this is a great thing. Often when dogs are pregnant, they are very self conscious and very cuddly. The mamas almost act like puppies again and stay close on my heels to seek constant attention. My husband and I make sure that they get “extra loves” during their time of pregnancy.

What will the puppies come with?

All puppies will come with lots of love to give. They will be well socialized and up-to-date with their shots. They will have been given the proper doses of worming medications, will have an excellent vet check, their dew claws will have been removed, and last but not least, we will also be available for the LIFETIME of the puppy for any questions you may have.

Puppy comes with a PUPPY BASKET full of things puppies love: a stuffed toy to cuddle, Life Abundance Starter bag, a couple shampoo samples, Life Abundance treats, a 1 gallon bag of pine chips and a blanket that has been rubbed on mama for that great “mama smell”.  They will also come with a Board of Animal Health form to show we are licensed and doing things right, an 80 point vet check record signed off my the vet who examined each of them at 8 weeks, a full detailed health record showing all the things we did for your puppy to keep it strong and healthy (record of shots, wormers, nail clips, vet checks, Bordatella given, etc.) and a copy of your deposit receipt and copy of your final payment receipt!

How big will they get to be?
Puppies will be about 25-40 pounds and 13-16 inches tall when they are fully grown.

What are we looking for in our adoptive families?
We are looking for wonderful families with lots of love to give our puppies. We look for owners who promise to provide proper food, shelter, safety, exercise, medical needs kept up-to-date, and a few tummy rubs.

What do we feed our mommas and our puppies?

We give our mommas the best there is for dog food and supplements!  We feed Life Abundance.  Life Abundance can be shipped directly to your home!  There are tons of other products that Live Abundance offers such as Porky Puff treats, Dental treats, antixoident treats, Healthy hearts, along with great smelling shampoo, a spray lavender mist for calming puppies after shots, a between bath spray to keep them smelling fresh.  We love Life Abundance.
